Link Love for Writer's Notes' 2007 Commenters
January 8th 2008 11:43
A Little Late, But with Lots of Link Love!
Since the first of the year, I've been planning (and working on) this post to thank all who commented at Writer's Notes in 2007. I'd hoped to have it finished sooner but simply couldn't manage it, and for that I apologize.
I would have liked to go into more detail than I have here, also (i.e., listing the number of comments each person left and giving special recognition to those who commented often); but, since I don't have an efficient method of doing this at the moment--and since I also don't want this post to be any later than it already is--I'll limit myself to identifying individual commenters and linking to their blogs in the same way I do in my monthly comment recognition posts.
Perhaps later, when I can find the time to delve more deeply into my blog's 2007 comments and analyze them more closely, I'll be able to compile a list of exactly how many comments each person left and include it in a follow-up post. For the time being, though, I'll settle for one big link-love post!
Writer's Notes' 2007 Comments
During 2007, Writer's Notes received a grand total of 1,072 comments--though roughly half were my own replies to reader comments; therefore I'll adjust that total to 536 net comments received from 98 readers during the year. (Well, actually, it was less than a year. See next paragraph.)
Because I began blogging at the very end of January (January 28th), I actually only blogged for an eleven-month period during 2007, which likely cut down on the number of comments I would have received had I blogged all year. (Oh, well, this year should be different.)
Also, being totally new to blogging, I got off to a rather slow start, taking a good few months to learn the ropes and begin publishing a substantial number of posts each month. (For example, in February, 2007, I only posted four entries, in March, five, and in April, just one--though I made up for it after finally developing my blogging rhythm in May, 2007, posting 29 entries that month. I'm sure that my blogging infrequency from February through April didn't help encourage many comments during that first quarter of my first blogging year!)
Writer's Notes' 2007 Commenters
At any rate, here's a list of all the readers who left comments at Writer's Notes during 2007 and for whom I am so very grateful! (Order of list is totally random.)

Many Thanks to Each and Every Commenter!
Thanks so much, everybody, for taking the time to leave your thoughts at Writer's Notes during the 11 months that I've been blogging! You have made this blog a lively, friendly community, and your insights, kind words, and generous good wishes have been greatly appreciated! Hope you'll help make the Writer's Notes Year Two conversation as fascinating as its Year One interaction has been!
And Many Thanks to All My Readers!
If you have visited Writer's Notes during 2007, subscribed to my RSS feed, or signed up for e-mail notification of new posts to my blog--even if you didn't leave comments--I so appreciate you, as well! I know how hectic life can be, and I understand that there are many other reasons, besides being busy, for not getting around to commenting on the blogs we visit.
I'd Love to Hear from You in 2008!
If you are a regular Writer's Notes reader--and even if you aren't--I'd sure love to get to know you during the coming year; so, if you could possibly find the time, it would be wonderful to hear from you! I promise that you'll receive a personal reply. That's one thing I always do here at Writer's Notes: respond to comments! That's because each and every one of you--and each and every one of your thoughts--is important to me! You may have noticed the "iReply" logo in my sidebar: You Comment, iReply! Why not try me this year!
Best wishes to each of you in the New Year!
Jeanne
NOTE: If I haven't included a link for a commenter, it's because I either don't have a URL for that commenter or I noticed certain content on the commenter's site which ran counter to the G-rating of this blog.
Did you enjoy this post? Or have you commented this year and I've forgotten to include you? Please feel free to let me know, and I'll correct the situation immediately!

Indeed it is! Thanks so much for playing such a pivotal role in this growing community through your thoughtful comments, which have always been helpful to both my readers and me. And thanks every bit as much for your unfailing encouragement. Both are appreciated more than you know!
Gratefully,

After my first several (slow) months, I began to get the hang of "this blogging thing," and I must admit, I rather enjoy it now--or perhaps I should say I've become addicted to it!
So glad you're part of the Writer's Notes community, and I consider it a privilege to be part of the Word Sell community, as well! I truly enjoy your insightful posts on business topics, because they are well-written, entertaining, and informative--and also because business is a real interest of mine! Needless to say, I also appreciate your comments here at Writer's Notes and hope to read many more in 2008!
Thanks for your "quick-study" compliment!

You are what makes this blog as interesting as it is through your friendly, gracious, and insightful input! So thank YOU for being part of the Writer's Notes community, for adding value to my posts, and for helping to make this blog a welcome place for readers to gather!
Appreciatively yours,

Funny thing this morning, i followed an incoming link to this post which I could read although it was up as not yet published - tried to comment then but it wouldn't let me as the post was said not to exist - even though I could read it. Talk about virtual writing!

It's very true that an annual round-up is more exhausting than a monthly one--and it would have been even more so had I blogged for more than 11 months and/or received more comments than I did in 2007!
Please tell me more about the not-yet-published-post phenomenon! That sounds very odd, to say the least, and has me a bit worried that the entire world may be able to read the posts I'm in the process of preparing which are not yet ready for the reader's eye! What a mortifying thought!
A few more questions to help clarify this perplexing occurrence: Where did you see the incoming link you spoke of? And are you also able to see my "Writer's Notes Recognition for January '08 Comments," which I'm in the midst of working on? I certainly hope this far-from-complete post isn't visible to my readers!
Thanks for your help in figuring out what might be going on!

I found the link when I was checking incoming links - there was one from this post (perhaps you testing it). I went over to check the post as I would normally do, and found the not yet ready piece. I did get a bit confused because I went off to do something else, then went back to it through the front door of your site and couldn't find it.
But when I went back through the back-door route (via the incoming link) I got here again, could read it, just couldn't comment.
I'm wondering if it was ready and posted but not yet published? Is there a time lag between you approving for publication and it going on-line? This would be a more reassuring thought than your drafts being accessible to the world - I know I wouldn't like mine to be read in that state!
Hope this helps
Joanna

Thanks for the clarifying info! I think you're probably right that the link to this post showed up in your incoming link stats when I tested your link; but I certainly wasn't aware that this would allow those I'd linked to in my post to access the unpublished post through the "back door," as it were. I will definitely have to look into this further! So glad you told me about it!
It could have something to do with the fact that I've been bypassing the "Preview Post" option and using "Create Post" instead to save and view my posts (at the same time setting the date of publication for a later time and/or date). I've been doing it this way for quite some time--ever since I lost a couple of posts after using "Preview Post" in the past. I may just have to go back to using "Preview Post," though, after saving my work to MS-Word to make sure I don't lose it. I may also need to refrain from checking my links until I'm ready to publish the post.
From everything you've said, I'm assuming that my post appeared complete and ready for publication?
Thanks again for cluing me in!

I'm so relieved to hear that the post appeared complete!
I've sent you an e-mail further discussing this topic. Check for it when you're able to find the time.
Appreciate all your help!
Jeanne
P.S. I think I've discovered the source of the problem: I should really be using "Save Draft," rather than "Create Post" or "Preview Post" (before the post is complete, at least) but could never figure out exactly how it worked before; because, when I've tried to use it in the past, it didn't seem to do anything at all. I now know that that was only because I didn't know where to look for the drafts!
Thanks for facilitating the furthering of my blogging education! (I'd still like to conduct the experiment suggested in my e-mail to you, though, just to satisfy my curiosity about something; only now I might need to add a second prong to the investigation.)

I'm more than happy to link to your blog! It's certainly one that I would recommend without reservation to my readers.
As far as my health is concerned, I'm still attempting to shake off a resurgence of symptoms, which I'm hearing from others is one characteristic of this particular bug that's currently going around. Fortunately, this recurrence of the illness--which happened before I'd even had a chance to fully recover from the initial bout--doesn't seem to be as bad as it was the first time around (at least not so far)! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it won't get worse!
Wishing you an excellent 2008!

This IS a great tradition, isn't it? So glad I picked it up from another blogger! It's a wonderful way to show our appreciation for those who take the time to share their thoughts with us and who add so much value to our blog posts by doing so.
Yes, I DO have a blog anniversary coming up very soon--but, you know, I haven't really thought much about how I plan to celebrate it yet because, to be honest, I haven't felt terribly well since before Christmas. I'm on Round 2 of a bad cold that really knocked me for a loop--and just when it started to improve--came back in a new and different way! I'm now hoping it isn't heading toward bronchitis--or worse.
I've felt terrible about the fact that I haven't been visiting and commenting on very many of my favorite blogs, lately; but it's all I can do to keep up with writing blog posts--and I have two articles due early, early Sunday morning, which, for practical purposes, means Saturday night!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
