How Much Is Your Blog Worth?

Checking Out "The Good Blogs"

Today, I decided to visit a few of "The Good Blogs" to check them out and see what "The Good Bloggers" were up to. During my foray into this section of the blogosphere, I learned that there were indeed many interesting things happening and discovered a plethora of helpful information. (Check out some of these blogs, by clicking on the "miniblog" statements in "The Good Blogs" feed I've placed in my sidebar. I promise, you'll find some fascinating content!)

What's My Blog's Value?

One of the "interesting things" I found, posted by Arnie, at Critical Assumption, was this intriguing method of calculating the monetary value of your blog. Needless, to say, my curiosity got the better of me--and, of course, I headed right over to put Writer's Notes to the test! What would the results be? I worried. Oh, well, I was about to find out...

My Results

Well, a few short minutes later, I had my results, and they weren't bad at all--in fact, I was quite pleased. My blog turned out to be worth $22,017.06! Not too shabby! See for yourself:

My blog is worth $22,017.06.
How much is your blog worth?

A Little Background

Apparently, the method used to calculate the worth of the blogs we plug into this very nifty Technorati-powered tool is to assign a dollar value to each link to our sites. Self-described web guru Dane Carlson, of Dane Carlson's Business Opportunities, states the following about the tool he's created:

"Inspired by Tristan Louis's research into the value of each link to Weblogs Inc, I've created this little applet using Technorati's API which computes and displays your blog's worth using the same link to dollar ratio as the AOL-Weblogs Inc deal."

Why not plug in your own blog's URL and find out how much your blog is worth?

Happy calculating!
Jeanne

The Technorati blog value calculator is inaccurate, just to let you know. It depends on your Technorati rank, blog age, incoming links, outgoing links, etc.

Great to meet you, Louie! Thanks for stopping by! I'm glad you enjoyed the post!

As for the sidebar, a lot of trial and error has gone into it, and I may actually have it a bit overloaded, because it doesn't always load perfectly for me!

If I remember correctly, I read an older post on the Writer's Forum once, which is where I found out how to put things into the sidebar. Maybe you can look in the archives and find it. Or, if you can't find it, you might post a question on the Writer's Forum about it for the Orble techs. I'm sure they'd be happy to help!

Stop back again sometime!
Jeanne

Good to see you again, Grace! I thought the blog value calculator was a fun activity, though I always take things like that with a grain of salt!

Do I really believe my blog is worth over $22,000? Well...that depends...I think most of us believe we have a great deal to say that's of value (or we hope so, anyway), and the majority of us serious writers like to think our talents would--or at least should--command very high prices, and that, as soon as other people realize it, they will!

As a blogger, I like to think I provide value in the form of information and resources that will help my readers improve in their craft and ultimately succeed in the writing business--in whatever way they define success.

I don't really know much about the monetary value of links, blog age, or Technorati rank, but I do know that providing added value to my readers gives me a sense of satisfaction that no amount of money could ever buy.

Is my blog worth over $22,000? I'll let my readers decide. Because, ultimately, you are the ones who really matter!

Thanks for the comment!

Can you explain briefly how to do it? I'm quick learner; I think I'll get it if you tell me roughly where you add things to the sidebar. Thanks in advance!

Grace,

I've sent you a private message explaining what I know about adding items to your sidebar. Any other questions can be directed, via the Writers' Forum, to the Orble techs, who are extemely knowledgeable about such things!

Thanks!

Hi Jeanne,

I have seen the Good Blogs badge and wondered about it. Thanks for giving this mini-review. Now I know that it is something that I will have to check out.

Hi, Laura!

I actually joined The Good Blogs a short time back but had a little trouble inserting the feed into my sidebar. Just decided to try again, and it worked this time.

I'm finding many interesting blogs through this feed, many of which I might never have come across otherwise--though I am also finding some of my old favorites, as well!

I think you might enjoy checking it out.

Thanks for stopping by!

Sorry to have to announce that my blog is of NO Value at all. However, to me it is a good way to get my thoughts across to whoever will read it. I know the stories are rather long when compared to other blogs. Still, I think they are worthwhile.

Roger,

I have read a few of your stories, and I agree with you that they are of great value--in fact eternal value, which is the kind that truly matters! That's one type of value that Technorati is incapable of measuring! (It just goes to show that money isn't everything! In fact, on an eternal scale, money doesn't rank at all!)

Your blog is very new. With time and a little networking and link-sharing with other quality blogs, you'll see your blog's perceived value rise steadily. But, it doesn't happen overnight, so don't despair!

In the meantime...keep writing high-value content! That's what really counts!

Keep up the great work!
Jeanne

This is pretty funny, Jeanne. I typed in my blog URL and got back the value of $92,584.56. Since my blog is purely for fun and is not monetized, someone would have to be pretty dumb to pay nearly $100,000 for a blog that doesn't make a penny.

Well, congratulations, Lillie, for having a blog that's worth almost a hundred G's! You must be doing something right--either that or your links are made of gold!

That must be why I love your blog so much!

I met The Good Blogs guys at a blog convention a few months ago. They are the real deal, and I highly recommend their widget. If nothing else, it is just good to have a site where a real person evaluates the blogs, not some robot or link-based algorithm.

(Thanks for the comment on GoodWordEditing.com. Did you find me through The Good Blogs?)

Mark,

Thanks for stopping by! Yes, I did find you through The Good Blogs.

Thanks so much for your comment about The Good Blogs guys, because it perfectly confirms my experience just yesterday!

After sending them a message about a blog appearing in my widget which was inappropriate to the categories I'd chosen (as well as inappropriate to my own personal values), they responded the same day with an apology and the statement that the blog in question had been erroneously placed into the wrong category and had been removed from that category in response to my message!

Now, that's service! That's responsiveness! I am impressed! (And that's big, because there are a few websites I've sent messages to literally months ago that I've never yet heard back from!)

And, to top it off, when I wrote back, thanking them and expressing my concern that it could happen again, they again responded, not only the same day, but almost immediately--and for the second time that day! This is when I learned that they evaluate each blog individually before deciding which category to place it into.

Needless to say, this has made me feel very good about The Good Blogs and would cause me to recommend them to anyone, anytime. (This, won't guarantee that you'll like or agree with every blog on their list, but you certainly can know that you'll find a listening ear and a willingness to help, as well as a sincere attempt to do all they can to make your experience at The Good Blogs a pleasant one!)

Thanks, again, for your timely comment!

Drop by again, soon!
Jeanne

Stories like this always make me happy. Not because I'm in business with "The Dudes" or anything. I just like to hear about people who do good work.

That's probably why I feel so passionately about the articles I edit for TheHighCalling.org!

Mark,

I always enjoy hearing stories of this type, as well. Now, I think I'll head on over to TheHighCalling.Org!

Thanks for the visit!
